Any kind of flash storage seems, for me, to lack the kind of durability I would want for such data. I think an M-Disc DVD in a sleeve glued to the door of the central distribution is a much better choice, at least for the initial project version. One might not want to update that with each and every change that is later made, but could still do so in regular intervals, while changes are still being made.

Well, you could just integrate an USB hub, then the HID and mass storage device would appear behind a hub in the USB topology, which is perfectly legal and reasonable ...Zitat von Klaus Gütter Beitrag anzeigenUnfortunately, the combination of USB HID (used for KNX USB access) and USB mass storage in one device triggers all sorts of alarm bells in anti-virus software...

An integrated storage device would also need a backup in case of a failure of the device.

Transferring 10MB of project information via TP would take more than one hour - possible but not very practical.

Okay, still a problem with pure RF or IP installations.Zitat von Patrik2075 Beitrag anzeigen

Zitat von Klaus Gütter Beitrag anzeigenHej Patrik,
there are two aspects to your question: coordination during initial commissioning of the project and long-term storage.
For the first one, ETS offers the project archive which helps in teamwork on ETS projects. Provided some discipline and/or working rules, this problem can IMHO be considered solved.
Ah, I didn't know that! I'm gonna take a look at that! Thanks!
The second one is indeed a big problem on multiple levels (storage media durability, awareness and responsibility on the building owner's side, especially when the owner changes over time). Having a standardized place to keep the information would really help. The german KNX Professionals have launched such an initiative this year. I doubt that the power supply would be a suitable place for this (not available on pure IP or pure RF installations, not optional temperature for storage media, might be replaced at any time). I would also not consider cloud solutions - no-one will guarantee that the provider is still in business after 20 years.
Interesting! I hope they find a good solution!

Perhaps you also could get connected to the memory if you use an IP-gateway of some sort and do changes from your office.

yes, that is already clear, I also assumed a good storage location for the initial project.
There's no question that this has to be maintained manually anyway.

You can only save the project locally on the stick. Parameters changed via remote maintenance lead to inconsistent projects again.

Warum gibt es keine bessere Lösung für .knxproj
Hello!
A big problem with KNX is the dumb solution with the KNX projekt file. It's waaay to easy to do a mistake and find an old version of a projekt and lose some functions when you download the application. Especially when you are several colleagues that work on the projekt.
It's also a risk that the projekt file disappear completely. :'(
Why doesn't the manufacturers develop their power supply to have a memory where you can store the projekt file or something like that? It would be much more safe.
Any other ideas of how the projekt file could be stored?
Best regards
