prima, dass Euch meine Anleitung nun hilft (1000 downloads..)

Mein kleines Ego würde sich über eine Bewertung meiner Anleitung freuen.


Was den Speicher angeht: 266 Mhz Speicher läuft, 133 Mhz reichen.
Einfach mal schauen, was in der Bastelkiste noch liegt.

Ich habe noch folgende Ergänzungen zu Schritt 1+2 von o.g. Dokument (Betreffen HS 2 Net, NICHT: 2.0 net !)- BIOS-Einstellungen

Schritt 1:

Erstellen des USB-Bootsticks: cmd muss als Administrator aufgerufen werden (Alle Programme/ Zubehör/Eingabeaufforderung)
ansonsten Abbruch mit Fehler: " ... Did not successfully update MBR"

Schritt 2:

"Entf" zum Aufrufen des BIOS (Nicht F2 !)

1. Integr. periph.: USB-Keyboard: Enable
2. Adv. Bios features: First BD: USB-FD, Second BD: HDD-0 (=Flash)
3. Super IO Device: Seriell Port 1: 3F8/IRQ4
4. Power Management: AC Loss Auto restart: On

F10 zum Speichern und Neusatart

Nach Neustart kommt (zumindest bei mir) folgende Meldung:

PCI Devices werden gelistet:
Veryifying DMI Pool Data
F1...Dos
F2...Dos
F3...Dos
F4...Dos
Default: F2

->F1 drücken, dann fährt HS korrekt hoch !

Hi,

yeah there is a difference.

HS2.0 Net is a mid large case, beige colour booting from cd with a Motherboard from ECS (Elitegroup) and with a VIA Cyrix III CPU 667Mhz - thats the one I have.

HS2 Net is a very small black colour desktop case and booting from flash. For this one, you have to check with others for CPU and memory.

I gave you the key words - just search via google - the flash module will work in yours most probably too.

And if you have the HS2 Net, I guess you just have to change the flash module - to have enough memory.

I thought the motherboard was an EPIA 500 with a VIA chipset. Maybe we are not talking about the same stuff ?

I'm puzzled about the description, I've a HS2 NET booting from flash. Sometimes, I see descriptions about HS2 NET booting from CD. Could that make the difference.

All this works like a charm since a year ago on my HS 2.0 Net

Would you be so kind to provide a list of references and supplier, please ?
I guess no one is selling a kit ?

I have done the hardware upgrade already, but not yet the software to 4.0.

Here what you need or can do.

Hardware:

CPU: You can upgrade the CPU to a maximum P3 or Celeron with 1100 Mhz - thats supported by the board. Socket is called 370.

RAM: maximum supported is 512 MB = 2 times 256 MB but very important - every memory modul must have 16 MBMx64 chips on both sides !!!!! Others (32 MB chips on only one side) don`t work.
BTW, they are called DIMM Modules, so it is SDRAM with 133 Mhz.
So search for "SDRam PC133 256MB 168 pol." and take care it is not with 32Mx64 Chips !!!!

IDE Flash - so far no limit, I checked out even a 4 GB Modul parted in the required partitions. The Modul must have 40 Pins.
Search for "IDE Flash Modul" or DOM

All this works like a charm since a year ago on my HS 2.0 Net with the 2.8 Firmware.

The new challenge is now to run Fimrware 4.0 :-)

A good hint is the mentioned thread:

Indeed.
But the references for Module Flash and Module RAM are outdated.
Ordering the right parts is critical as there are many components with very similar specifications.

Anyone has done the upgrade recently and could provide updated references, please ?

There is the explanation, that newer HS do have a 4 partition filesystem.

So actually, I will try to get rid of the boot cd problematic, by changing the IDE flash from 3 partitions to 4 partitions. Afterwards I will try to copy the needed file-system from the new firmware.

the firmware.dat file is nothing else then a zip file. Rename it and unzip it and you will have the files.
I hope, there are all files included which the system will need.

I know, my problem is getting the right keywords.

It would be fine if one could buy all components from the same source (kind of kit), and be sure they fit together. I guess there are plenty of "old" HS2 out there, which could benefit from an upgrade. Maybe someone hears me...

Ein Tip noch: Bei Pollin gibts zur Zeit sehr günstige 128 MB Flash-Module.

Was den HS2.NET angeht, also die CDROM-Version - der basiert doch auch auf einem VIA Epia-Board, oder? Wenn man da RAM und Flash aufrüstet, sollte man die 4.0 Firmware doch zum laufen bringen, wenn man die auf eine bootfähige CD bringt?

Wenn man Platzprobleme auf dem HS2 hat, kann man RAM und Flash erweitern. Anleitung dazu gabs sogar hier im Forum.

Danke vielmals für die schnellen Antworten. Ja ich habe diesen Hinweis im Change Log auch gesehen - wollte es aber nicht glauben .....

Ja, der Homeserver zeigt nach erfolglosem Uebertragen die Meldung "Projekt zu gross". Ein "leeres" Testprojekt wird übertragen. Werde jetzt trotzdem erstmal den Speicher erweitern.
