Homeserver 2 und Experte 4.0

Hello,

Second attempt to upgrade my HS.
In the BIOS, the only USB boot devices listed are:
USB-FDD
USB-ZIP

no USB-disk. The HS is only 6 years old (Oct 2006)

Any easy way to get around this ?
I understand I need an external, writeable device, in order to put FreeDos on it and save the HS partition 1. I see only the possibility to temporary add another IDE disk (prepared on another system).

Any better / eaysier suggestion ?
Maybe upgrade the BIOS (1984-2000 Award Software), is that feasable ?

Versuch gelungen

für alle die noch nicht sicher sind:

der HomeServer 2 NET lässt sich mit dem Firmwareupdate hs3 (wird mit Experte 4 geliefert) updaten.

Zu beachten ist, dass das Projekt ca. 20% mehr Speicher belegt, als dies mit Experte 2.8 der Fall war.

Der QC, hat dann die Optik & Funktionalität des HS4, Android geht ebenfalls.

Here are the memory socket in a HomeServer 2 Net,
and the corresponding memory module.
The 2 notches are clearly seen on the picture.

For sale: DDR1 RAM 512MB

Bei meinem HS2 lässt sich die Firmware zwar problemlos über Netzwerk hochladen, wird aber nicht installiert.

Bekomme dann immer aus Experte 4 die Meldung "Firmware zu alt,...."

Der HS bleibt auf 2.8 hängen

RAM type is given in my manual: kvr266x64c25/512 works fine in my server.

I attempted the memory upgrade. Bad luck, the memory doesn't fit.
I think there are several model of motherboard.
Mine has 2 slots for memory, each memory module has 2 notches, the module I got (see picture) has only 1 notch in the middle, too bad.

I guess the name DDR, DDR1 DDR2 has to do with the speed and the notch, I'll try to sort it out ...

Hello,

Before doing the upgrade, I want to write down the BIOS parameters, but the BIOS is protected with a password.

Anyone knows this password, please ?
I don't want to use the jumper to reset all parameters, unless no other solution

Hallo zusammen

hätte ich auch fast gefragt, aber wollte es erst probieren.

Ich habe mir den Baustein in den Editor gezogen und eine 1 fest auf den Eingang gelegt.
Der Baustein erwartet irgendeinen 14 Byte Text, was genau weis ich nicht, die Frage hätte ich noch.

Wenn Der Homeserver dann damit gestartet ist, rufst Du die Debug Seite auf und hast hier mehrere Links zu den entsprechenden Dateien.

Freedos won't boot on a 8 GB flash - my experience. 1 GB is max, IMHO.

You are right, there is indeed a DOS limit.
If I remember well, the max size is 2 GB, but that's the partition size.
I guess you could have a 8GB disk size and a 100MB first partition, make it bootable & active and boot from there.
I'll come back if I get it to work ....
