    Preferred Interface

My current interface to the KNX bus is an old RS232 without FT1.2. If I want to use the eibPC, some new hardware will have to be purchased. I have been thinking about an IP interface anyway and this might be a good excuse.

If the eibPC is attached to the bus with an IP interface, it will have to go through a router (Fritzbox) so that it can also access the internet once a day for time sync.

Do I really want to have all bus messages traveling through the Fritzbox?
Is it better to use a direct connection to RS232 for the bus traffic and the Fritzbox connection only for internet access?

Thanks for answering what may be a naive newbie question.

You can also sync the EibPC with an KNX/DCF77 clock, if you have no Internet Acess.

This is depending on your personal thinking. You have the freedom of using both.
      To be complete:
Next Firmware will have the possiblity to use the RS232 Interface freely (if you donot use it for the FT1.2)

The bandwith used by these messages is quite nothing for an ethernet interface.

You could create a separate internal zone and set some forwarding rules for the EibPC, e.g. to only let NTP (for time synch) through.
