Raspberry pi configuration

Hello, i would like to transfer my home project actually on a HP 54NL server to a rapsberry pi 4 in a din box.
On this RPI i would to use, smathomeng, smartvisu, knxd and owserver (for 1wire) and maybe some other little tools.
But there is several questions :
- wich version should i buy ? 2, 4 or 8Gb ?
- wich case should buy ? i see this on ali : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32997...archweb201603_
- wich storage ? USB key, SDHC card ? 16Go, 32Go more?
- and finally how to power the RPI ? i can bring poe cable but RPI need a module to use POE but i need GPIO pin for 1 wire ... have you an idea for this ?

• The Pi I am testing on has only 1 GB RAM, so 2GB should be sufficient. If you like to be absolutely on the safe side, go with the 4 GB version.
• I have never used a Pi case for a REG installation. Keep in mind, that the case you linked to has no provision for cooling. I like cases with passive cooling. Since I have the test-Pi on my desk, I dont mind it lookin good I use the Flirc case: https://www.amazon.de/Raspberry-Pi-F..._df_B07WG4DW52
• SDHC cards for storage can be problematic, if the software writes a lot to disk. In this case the cards tend to die after some time. I would go for a SSD with USB3 interface. (The actual firmware of the Pi4 can boot from USB)
• I have never used POE, but I don't see why it would not work, but keep in mind, that (like with cooling) the POE hat might not fit in every case. You might use an external POE splitter though, which has an RJ45 for data and an USB-C for power, but: Most of those POE splitters work only with 100MBit and not with 1GBit. So, if 1GBit is needed you need to look for a beasr that supports it.
• As for usage of the GPIOs: With the Flirc case, you can use a flat cable to access all GPIO pins externally.

first of all, if you place the RPi 4 in a DIN case, you might need to think about cooling. If mine didn't have a hardware defect from the start, maybe it got too hot.

Meanwell types are fairly good, especially for the price. Get at least the 2.4 amps version.

I only had the 1 GB version, which ran fine; if you want to run SmartVISU on the box also, maybe get the 2 or 4 G version, but I don't expect the smaller version to run into problems.

One problem with running Raspis for longer times is wear on the SD-Card. You can use SD cards just fine (get the 16G; if you really want more, don't get one bigger than 32G), but then I would make a backup of the card after major changes in the setup, and possibly every 6 months (?). An USB key might be faster on the RPi4, but I wouldn't count on it, and it has basically the same problems with wear.

As you want to put the RPi in a DIN case, I guess you don't have room for a "real" SSD or HD around, so SD might be your best choice here.

Note: as I have an continuously running server around, I mount the whole filesystem via NFS and only use the SD for the bootloader. Absolutely no risk of SD card wear, but takes a bit of work setting up and - again - you need a server running continually.

Hm. I'd simply use a little Intel NUC box like DN2820. Faster processor, SSD usage, solid power.
But maybe you can tell why you really need a DIN case?

I think i will choose 4Gb of ram to be sure

Ok for SD Card, i will put the system in read only and put all modification into ram or smb partition.
For power i will buy Mean Well DR-15-5 thanks for this
For NUC option, it's too big to integrate into the electrical panel. i want a full integrated system (Better if i send my house!)
