    Raspberry 2 performance?

    Hello Guys.

I've used the SmartVisu together with the Raspberry Model B - but i think the performance is too slow for updating data at the screen.. Has anyone tried to run it at the Raspberry 2?

I was wondering if that works better with the improoved performance

have u tried different clients? which are u using (device, browser)? could also be related to client-side javascript performance.

I made some tests with smartVisu on RasPi2. RasPi 1 as a client was too slow. A laptop (Win 7) with Firefox a client was fast enough. I think, with Chrome it was a little bit faster. I only tried the examples from the smartVisu-Homepage. Maybe with a real knx system it is different.

The most limiting faktor is the speed with which the SQlite data can be transferred to smartVISU. A Raspi 2 is significantly faster then a Raspi 1. I also tried it using a VM on a mac mini, and that solution was not faster than the Raspi 2. Maybe a dedicated PC is faster - but then there's the question how much energy you want to spend for a faster redraw, since the rest of the system is mostly idling even on a Raspi.

I think, this is a design issue/limitation in smarthome.py and/or smartVISU. If you compare the speed of the interface between i.e. smartVISU and Edomi you get a glimpse on what is possible with latest tech - Edomi running in a VM on the same machine as my smarthome.py/smartVISU trial is lightning fast compared to smartVISU. I think this has not much to do with platform performance, but with the design of the software.

Sorry for my bad explanation... I was meaning the pi 2 as a client with a touch screen connected...

ive tested the pi1for running smartvisu, but was way to slow I think. No I'm running smarthome/visu on a Intel NUC - that is very great performance when using my Pc and iPhone 6S as client....

now i I have some iPad2 mounted in wall, as clients - but I wanna find another solution, since these isn't fast enough...

a solution ion could be to buy three new iPad Air 2 - but that would cost around 1200€ ..... Pretty expensive solution...

thats why the pi2 and a touch screen could be nice

Aha, OK - never tried a Raspi as client.
