    heating issue

This is a heating issue I have and please please help!

The spec of the fan coil unit is the GEA Flex Geko and it either comes with it’s own control, which can be connected to their own bus system, call the GEA Matrix, or provided without a control system, which means the KNX system would have to control it directly.

What I want to be able to do with it is connect each unit to the KNX system so they can be controlled from either in the room or on a network. If a unit has been left on after a guest leaves, employees should be able to turn it off from the central control. The central control system should also be able to read what temperature the room is at any time, so a value actuator or volt free contact probably isn’t going to provide that level of functionality.

What I need to know is:
    • Does the system connect directly to the KNX system?
    • If so, does it connect via it’s own control interface or does it require the KNX system to provide the control?
    • If the KNX system has to provide the control, what would we install?
    • Could I get the feedback from a thermostat in the room and would this provide local and central control?

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT THIS SYSTEM, DO YOU KNOW ANY FAN COIL UNITS THAT CAN BE INTEGRATED WITH KNX EASILY ...PLEASE IF YOU CAN TELL ME THE BRAND NAME THAT WOULD BE VERY HANDY.BTW I am in UK so be handy if i can get this in the UK.

Thank you guys appreciate the time and help.

    cheers

    This sounds like a hotel?

There is a option to connect the GEA Control System to LON - but I don't think that this would really help in regards of KNX. AFAIK, GEA doesn't offer a KNX-Interface. You would have a full blown GEA-Setup plus a LON behind the GEA-Controller.

Option: Buying GEA without any controller and using WAGO IO 750 as controller for GEA - if you've a setup where are many GEAs which have to be controlled independent from each other, the WAGO IO 750 could greatly reduce the cost for the solution - compared to a KNX-Controller in every room.

WAGO IO 750 has a native and certified KNX-Interface The KNX (UK) Association • making technology work together (click News Stories an scroll down to the 5th article, using the product-ids provided there you will find a lot additional information using google)

You could use standard KNX-Thermostats in the rooms - and have a central control too - interfacing the WAGO IO 750 via KNX.

Edit: Markus was faster and his solution sounds great.

      Hi Vimal

This GEA Flex Geko is some kind of electrical Air Condition, providing heating and cooling, right?
Well, first of all, there are KNX Room Controllers (Thermostat) like the Busch-Jaeger Triton with e.g. 3 push-button rockers (hope its the right expression), so you can use them not only for heating/cooling control, but also to e.g. switch the lighting and maybe close and open blinds.
Other controllers are from Gira or Berker and probably plenty of others.
They are quite flexible, but still you have the problem how to interface the KNX with the GEA Flex Geko. Most primitive would be just on/off. A temperature control can then be realized by using a PWM signal generated by the KNX room controller. But heating AND cooling isn't easy to implement then.
The remote temperature check and set up is no problem at all. With more details about the GEA Flex Geko unit it is maybe possible to go more into details. I haven't found much about it (yet).
If you're lucky, you can use this interface between the A/C and the KNX:
      IRSC
      As a controller e.g. Google-Ergebnis für http://www.elektrotresen.de/images/bilder/267/111/79910/79910.jpg

      Good luck

      Martin

          hi guys,

just read through what you guys have said and i agree with martin that what markus has proposed sounds real good. But thanks for the input martin appreciate it.

Markus i was looking through the web and reading about the WAGO System you suggested. seems like you have experience in this. any chance you can send anything that would be useful. internet seems a big vague and am not sure i am reading the exact product that i should be using. any chance you can send me links or data that would be useful in showing how to integrate and connect it with KNX.

also if you have time i had posted the same question in another KNX forum and one of the members there had came back with this

          Product: 3182

if you could please have a look and tell me what you think about it that would be handy.

Thanks again for al the help and time

          cheers
