KNX/EIB Visualizations - Lost in the woods (English)

Hi,

first sorry for my English in this mainly German forum, but my German is even worse.

Let me first introduce myself.
My name is Glenn and live in Belgium. I have installed a basic KNX in my new home.
I mostly use Jung components in combination with JUNG FD design switches.

I have read a lot of threads in this forum (via google translate ) and got a lot of information and knowledge on the knx topic.

I'm now looking for a good and affordable visualization, but I'm a little lost in the number of products and possibilities.

What are our experiences with some of these visualizations?
- What are the positive points?
- What are the negative points?
- What is the price of the software and hardware?
- How is the connection with the bus done?
- Which devices and OS's are supported? (windows, linux, ipad, iphone, android, ...)


Personally I'm looking for something that I can use an Ipad for and have 3D floor plans.
I already found some high level information on the visualizations, but I don't know the details.

I just wanted to quickly let you know that the JUNG video you have found is powered by nomos/m..myhome. nomos supports Linux (end of July) and Mac OS and all ixxx devices.

also you may have a look at eibPC - HomeControl ctrl-h - The home control site - News

I will publish it soon as open source. A Windows binary is already available.
It works best with enertex eibPC but it may be adapted to other controls in future.

Here a list of the key features:

• Server component written in python, may also be installed on smaller platforms (like a NAS system), available soon as source code distribution
• Client purely based on modern browser technologies with specific enhancements for iOS support (iPad, iPhone)
• Immediate status updates through web sockets technology support
• WYSIWYG editor in the browser, no need for client installation
• Project management functions (for handling different visualization projects on one server)
• Full support of ETS export files for group address lists
• Many available widgets and continuously enhanced with new ones (next version will also contain a chart control and a monitoring functionality in the server)

irgendwie schreiben hier bisher (außer bodo) nur Hersteller/Entwickler und empfehlen ihre eigenen Produkte. Auf Vor- und Nachteile geht dabei natürlich keiner ein. Wirkliche Erfahrungsberichte wären im Visu Dschungel sehr von Vorteil, da ich und bestimmt viele andere auch da echt verloren sind. Außerdem stampfen hier täglich viele Entwickler eigene Visus aus dem Boden. Die einen als Hobby, manche aber auch weil sie die bisherigen für unbefriedigend halten. Eine Liste mit Vor- und Nachteilen und Preisen wäre hier wirklich klasse.

Ich hab mich nun vorerst auf'n Homeserver eingeschossen, da der hier eine Breite Lobby hat und mir die QC Visu optisch gut gefällt und sich eine rudimentäre Visu mit den wichtigsten Funktionen erstmal schnell erstellen lässt (Dimmen, Schalten, Jalousie und Heizung). Über Plugins lassen sich auch Kameras und z.B. Mediensteuerung realisieren, wenn auch nicht sehr umfangreich. Aber da ich kein Systemintegrator bin und dennoch alles selber machen möchte, schien mir das die beste Option zu sein. Später wenn wir im Haus leben und ich dann genügend Zeit habe kann ich immer noch langsam auf andere Visus wie z.B. die Ajax basierte umsteigen.

So ist mal mein Plan, aber einen Erfahrungsbericht mit Vor- und Nachteilen kann ich dir nicht geben, da ich bisher nur mit dem Gira System gespielt habe und das auch nur ohne KNX Anbindung da das Haus noch nicht steht. Neupreise für den HS3 sind etwa 1900 Euro, dann noch etwa 80 Euro für die iPad App und 80 Euro für die iPhone App (Achtung, keine Universal App). Hierzu sei erwähnt, dass die Apps nicht die volle Funktionalität bieten, aber für mich auch erstmal ausreichend (Schalten, Dimmen, Jalousien, Heizung).

Eine Entwicklung des Forums nennt sich hsfusion. Damit lassen sich die iPad und iPhone Visus für den HS3 frei erstellen. Hierfür ist hsfusion notwendig (kostet glaub an die 100 Euro) und der iViewer von Command Fusion für das iPad und iPhone. Hier kostet die Lizenz je Gerät ebenfalls etwa 100 Euro.

Die Visu Software QuadClient ist kostenlos und auf Windows ab XP lauffähig. Touch Clients von Gira sind recht teuer. Knapp 2000 Euro für die 9" und 3000 Euro für die 19" Variante. Dann lieber einen Elo Touch mit custom Blende und nem Panel PC in der Wand verbauen. Kosten etwa 500 Euro. Wenn du aber rein über iPad steuern willst ist das natürlich irrelevant.

That is not really surprising

I do not know anyone who has made any experience with more than one visualization system. Therefore it is nearly impossible to have pro´s and con´s out of a single hand.

So IMHO the only available solution is to read the topics and/or download trial versions.
