KNX/EIB "ETS tried to write in a protected memory block or a non-existant"

    Hi,

I'm trying to program an ABB SA/S 4.10.1 switch actuator, with ETS3.0e
Assigning a PA is no problem.

When programming the application, at the end (progress bar at 100%) I get an error message
"ETS tried to write in a protected memory block or a non-existant"

I've just downloaded the application from the ABB site.

Any idea how to start troubleshooting ?

    PS: forgot to mention...
Before starting the programming cycle, I get a pop-up
"The already downloaded application in the device differs from the application
in the ETS project. The complete application will be downloaded.
The operation may take several minutes."

    Hi there

I vaguely remember the error messages, as they popped quite some time ago. All I remember is that it had to do with a wrong interface address, or an address that didn’t quite fit into the existing line structure. Once I resolved that, it would download the application again. The interesting thing was that not all devices seemed to have been affected by it. If you’ve got a USB interface, connect it directly to the line in question and try again.

I might be wrong, but that was what I experienced.

    Cheers!
    Martin

I've been very carefull with the installation and double checked everything, especially in the context discribed here.

In this particular instance, the I/F and the device are both on line 1.1.x and I can program another device, no problem.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply.

PS: Could it be that the device was on the shelf for a very long time and that the application doesn't fit anymore ?

Did you try to unload the device and program the application again?

          Yes !
I first tried the Bus reset, then unload/reload, no luck. I guess that's all I can do ?
It is as if the application doesn't fit the device.
There is only one application on the ABB site "SAS_X6-16_VD-TP_XX_V10-03-24_R2-0A.VD3" for ETS3, so I can hardly be wrong.

I'm trying the ABB tech sup, they have an excellent reputation, let's see the outcome.

            Sad story

After several mails with ABB Helpline, here are their conclusions.

that seems to be a memory error that we couldn't solve with software update or anything else.
So it looks like an hardware probleme with the memory.
            Too bad
