Hi all, first of all, please accept my apologies for not writing in German.
In fact, not knowing German is one of the reasons for posting, as even with online translators, some of the finer details escape me.
I set up my own KNX installation some 5-10 years ago. It currently has about 50 addresses on ETS.
A few years ago, visualization products were very expensive and more oriented to the professional market (Gira homeserver used to cost thousands of €€). So I never even considered that.
But now there seem to be many options available, and they seem less proprietary, so one doesn't risk being left behind if the company discontinues a product, or goes out of business(?).
Here's what I'm looking to add to my KNX network:
1-Logging (weather station values, internal temp. readings, electrical consumption, etc). Is a server necessary for this?
2-Servers - can a server be setup easily with standard PC hardware, perhaps even on a Virtual Machine, or is a pre-built vendor solution more hassle-free? Are there pre-made ("turn-key") server solutions for reasonable prices (unlike the Gira Server)?
2.1-Is there Windows KNX server software for DIYers?
3-Logic - I currently have no logic device on my network. I assume a server would be able to do this better than a dedicated knx logic device - am I correct?
4-Visualization with PC[Win]+Android integration - I've recently come by 1Home, which looks like a good product. But there's also the Gira X1 (it allows using 3rd party apps?), Jung Visu (html5 interface seems like a good thing to me), and other products from vendors I'm not familiar with: MDT, Loxone, Control4, knXpresso, etc.
What are your thoughts on these products. Is there a current general consensus on this forum as to what is the best option? (€€ - at most up to the X1 cost)
4-Integration with Alexa/Google home. It seems to be common with these visualization tools - does any of them not have it?
thanks for reading
