    Presence Detectors

    Hi everybody.
I am very new at this and I need to choose the presence detectors for my installation.

My question is: some products are sold as presence detectors while others are sold as motion detectors. Is there really any difference?

For example: I like the Theben Sphinx 331 KNX motion detector. I also like Gira's KNX presence detector. Does the Gira one know you are there even if you stand completely still?

Also, another question: I do not need the constant light control (I only need on/off) but I do need the ability for them to trigger the alarm system at night (alarm is KNX) upon movement detection. Both of them will do, right?

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Mike

BTW, any opinions on these detectors?

    Hello Mike

I've found a comprehensive answer to what the differences of presence and motion sensors are:

    Steinel

    Hope this helps.

      Kropfm,
So... I guess I will be going for presence detectors for main rooms and motion sensors for hallways/corridors.

      Thanks!

some people would probably argue that motion detectors should be used in corridors and rooms such as storage rooms, cellars, garage and attic, but personally I stick to presence sensors if used inside a building.

Most presence sensors come with an HVAC output (some even got two of them, BEG) communication object and they are daylight independent. Whether your alarm system can use those COs, depends on your system. You will have to look into this more closely.

        Cheers!

P.S. My EibPC captures those ‘on’ telegrams and sets off the intrusion alarm.
