KNX/EIB Softwaere to send and receive KNX telegrams.

Hello, unfortunately I do not speak German, but I was told this was the best KNX-forum on the Internet, so I hope It is ok that I ask a question in English.

I am going to set up a KNX-system, but I want it to be very flexible, so i Want to have a computer connected to the KNX-network at all time. As far as I understand, ETS can be used to program the KNX-equipment, but it cannot send and receive telegrams. (An example can be to turn off the lights when I start a movie on the computer).

Is there a program that is recommended to do this? I have also seen the KNX IP Baos 771 Weinzierl Engineering GmbH - BAOS_77X_Infoliste, this seems to have a webserver inbuilt. Can I use only this product without any additional software?

I've no recommendation, but you could have a look at the excellent eibd very often mentionned here, or eventually check this sample VB program using Falcon

Thank you for the tips Warichtet. The eibd-website was a bit confusing, but I will try to understand the program and how to set it up

Have anyone tried other software for this task, like for instance Openremote or mControl3? Both seem to be able to communicate with the KNX-bus. I am also still very interested if anyone has tried the Weinzierl KNX IP BAOS

Hi ATwindsor,

I'm just in the first stages of using a Weinzierl KNX IP BAOS 771. My first steps have beeb reading Temperatures and switching lights. The real goal is to control the heating system in my house and after the little experience i have now I'm prette confident to achieve what i want.

I am using MS Visual Studio 2008 with C# and needed about 3 hours to see first results. The guys at Weinzierl even responded swiftly when I mailed for information.

Just now I'm stuck with actively reading a temperature, instead of waiting for the event eventually be raised at the KNX bus. The weather is bad, so there should be plenty of time today to do the testing.

In fact ETS can send Telegramms, but this is more a debugging functionality.

What you are searching for is a some kind of Logic Engine. This could be bundled to hardware like with Wiregate, eibPC, Homeserver or a Software solution like:

* openHAB
* communiGate
* Misterhouse
* LinKNX
