    HS Visu: On/Off symbol

    Hi,

About the HS On/Off symbol in the Visu.
I compared this icon with several remote control devices, Windows icons and other industry standard devices and noticed that in the HS, it is upside down (the vertical bar is on the bottom, instead of on the top).

Any reason / argument for that ?
(Yes I know, "it's not important", "just flip it", but I wanted to know if there was any reason)

I think there is nor reason for it. Often, i draw my own on/off switches or use green (for on) and red (for off) as Text or Box.

      OK
I'm redoing my Visu right now, that's why I noticed.
But with so much attention paid to every detail of the icons ; i.e. shadow, relief, conistency, etc I just wondered ... (not willing to be picky).

Maybe you are gifted by the gods or a specially skilled artist (not my case ) , but to reach the same level of quality as the original Gira icons, requires a serious effort (not to mention the effort to learn yet-another-graphic-product).

As an aside: (please do not flame) I've many times tried to get the source code of the icons .... and ended up nowhere, besides getting a stack of dumb replies.
The reason I ask is, with the source file (and the ad-hoc application), you can easily change / add / modify /resize the symbol without any loss of quality and still keeping the same look & feel across the entire icon library. I've seen some efforts where people kindly offer new icons, but, although this gift is mostly welcome and appreciated, those icons done have the same look & feel and don't always fit in an existing design, and hence don't have a very professionnal look .
I still fail to understand why the original icon's source are not made public (copyright ? license ? re-use from competition ?). Seriuously, I see no argument; imho it's a very poor marketing decision.
On the other hand, if they were public (restricted to registered users), we could see plenty of libraries to be available for the great benefit of the whole HS community.
Personnaly, I would make my library public, without any counter part, just like some people do for the "Baustein".
Heck, if it works for the "Baustein", why wouldn't it work for the symbols ? is it about a "holly cow" ?

Hint: you can find every Symbol (like Switch, shutter,...) in the subdirectory "ico" of your Design, for example \GIRA1024V\ico

No, it is not a holly cow.

I have the suspicion, that the source for the symbols was made by different people with different tools. And maybe, a hardware crash....

I am quite sure, GIRA is aware of this problem - maybe they are working on it .

I find the actual icons in many cases not selfexplaining and in many cases they are just bad. There are many mistakes, different colors of grey, different bevelling and so on. For a company with high demands on design, this can't be satisfying.

Will see, what the future will bring!

            >you can find every Symbol in the subdirectory "ico"

Yes, sure, but it's a flat file, I mean there is no such things like: objects, vectors, layers, palettes. It is dead stuff.

            @Matthias
            >No, it is not a holly cow.

            My questionnable sense of humour.
Anyway, I'm very very cautious with anything which could be considered as a critic about the HS.

            > I am quite sure, GIRA is aware of this problem

One of the dumb answer came from Gira. I'm very happy with Gira's TechSup, I was used to get excellent technical answer and was very frustrated with what I got . Still on my stomac.

One of the most often argument brought forward by the "against" man is; "it's not because you buy a car, that you are allowed to get the blue print". This is perfectly correct, but not appropriate to our symbol discussion.

            >I find the actual icons in many cases not selfexplaining and in many cases they are just bad. There are many mistakes, different colors of grey, different bevelling and so on.

Ûû, I wouldn't dare to say that, altough I think it (I fear to be sacked, flamed, beaten to dead and worst of all, excluded from the forum). But indeed there are some minor "gliches", like the drop shadow goes right and the light source is .... from right (with the source, you correct this easily).

            > Will see, what the future will bring!

If Matthias "pushes" a bit, I'm sure it will bring something positive
Anything wrong in my arguments ?
Is Gira aware about this forum , maybe they drop an eye from time to time
Anyway, it's too late for me, back to the drawing board.

Thank you from an apprentice designer.

              Hi,

So, there is a new version of the Experte and a brand new QC with plenty of nice icons. Great !

              I ask again.

Is it possible to get those icons in source code ? please !

              Thank you for any hint.

Yes, you can have these new icons as sources. But - surprise - they were made in XAML. So things are not easier today :-)

                C:\Programme\Gira\HS+FS\exp23\DE\quad\public\desig n_1\public_icons.zip

And - beware of the license ;-)

                  I've no problem with this:
                  • it is for my own private use
                  • I can sign a non-disclosure agreement (have done this many times for non-yet-relased MS products)
PS: I'm not going to use the QC as it is now.

                    XAML means XAML ;-)

                    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/XAML

                    For PNG, you can use

                    C:\Programme\Gira\HS+FS\exp23\DE\quad_config\confi g\icons.zip

                    P.S: I do not, too.

Ok, I'm going to buy a "zammel" editor.
But before .... do you think all QC icons are available ? (looking at them one by one with IE takes ages).

                      Thank you.
