Hi,

I have got really good help from you here regarding KNX alarm system and the heating system and now over to the last (what I can think of so far) system in our KNX system: controling audio.

Anyone know of a good system where I can control the audio to speekers thru KNX? I'm not willing to pay thousends and thousends of €, I just would like a simple audio control system where I can set the volume and mabe choose next song with the help of the KNX system that we are going to implement in the house we are building

Hi Martin,

there are many ways to do this.
One way is to use devices like irTrans or global caché, that are equipped with IR and RS232 control outputs for Audio/Video. On the KNX side you will need then some kind of intelligence like HS, EibPC... where you may configure the commands.
IMHO the more conveniant way is to use a Audio/Video control system with some kind of intelligent Extender. Here you may include the bidirectional communication with the KNX bus.
The second way has the very big advantage, that you will only have two configurations: ETS and the one of the A/V control system.
The A/V system offers you the visualisation (including KNX), the IR, RS232 and IP libraries.
The communication allows to send all info from the AV controller to KNX (Tags to 14 byte values) and to use KNX buttons to control AV macros (starting devices like sonos, squeeze or control volume).
As AV systems I can recommend "bitwise controls" for all kind of apple and android devices, or "RTI" for dedicated remotes or iPad. I kindly invite you to check my web site.

a very cheap way to achieve want you want could be the logitech squeezbox. Take this as search term here in this forum should give you some ideas.

I have checked around now and it looking like its going to be the RTI with the following configuration:

1 RTI XP-6
1 TRI AD-4
1 VIVATEQ 2-way KNX/EIB Interface for RTI XP- IP

The only problem is I can't find where to buy ut i Germany (and in Sweden it way to expensive)

What do you think about this solution? Is it good? Is it bad?

How many rooms you need ?

You can get a Squezzebox Duet with a WLAN controller for 200 EUR.
If you have a HS you can make a real nice multiroom system.

Beside the normal use (playing MP3 or IP-Radio) also playing of own MP3 file depending on KNX events is possible.

You need also a place where the Logitech Media Server (LMS) runs. Usually the NAS. but also Windows or Linux is available.

The LMS has in telnet interface where you can controll all player in you house.

The Player can be conneted via WLAN or fixed IP network.

Hi Martin,

To my opinion the products you've chosen are ok!
As I've already mentioned, it is a quite conveniant way to use a Audio/Video control system like RTI with some kind of intelligent extender like the XP6. Here you may include the bidirectional communication with the KNX bus. You can control everything on KNX and you are also able to use KNX events to start some A/V actions.
When using the A/V controller as "master" with it's visualization, you only have to handle two configurations (two projects): ETS and RTI.

Sorry,

We "only" need 4 zones and willl use it to play webradio and mp3.

The intend is to use a strandard KNX 8-Pushbutton to select source, volume and change track/station.

We wont have a Gira HS,but a own version with either openhab or knxweb
