    MDT glastaster befestigung

    hallo,

    Hello,

I am an Irish KNX user who despite speaking no German has found your forum extremely useful (with the assistance of Google Translate!).

I apologise for my lack of German but I was hoping someone here could help me.

I have an MDT Glastaster which is slightly loose on the wall, this is largely due to larger UK standard sized back boxes. I want to secure the fixing plate provided with the switch but it is made of plastic and I fear drilling through it or screwing it to something firmly may damage it.

Can similar plates made of metal be purchased anywhere, with mounting holes allowing the "claws" on the switch to clip in, as with the plastic plate? I've looked through Voltus and Eibmarkt but haven't found such a metal plate by itself. It doesn't help that I'm unsure of the precise German term for the part!

    Many thanks for your help.

Is it not possible for you to replace the larger black box on the wall thru a smaller ones?

      Hi,

I'm not aware of any metal plate, but would advise to contact the manufacturer. Possibly MDT could provide an "UK adapter".

      Worst-Case:
Use polyurethane foam and just stick it together. I had to do the same and it was working well. But use the foam carefully, otherwise the switch is not straight anymore.

Thanks very much for your suggestions. I've managed to secure the plastic adaptor plate now but I find that even with the plastic adaptor plate secure there is a significant amount of movement. I don't know if is common to anyone else or just me.

It's a good price and I like the looks a lot but I'm not fond of the mounting system at all so far.

Just to update on this, I secured the plastic back plate solidly to the backbox but there is still quite a degree of movement between the plate and the switch. I contacted MDT who do not provide any alternate plates and didn't offer a solution.

I did find that a spare metal Hager plate I had from an old buscoupler worked much better and was very secure. My problem now is I can't find anyone who sells spare base plates, the ones you would find bundled in any switch/flush mounted device. I found one in the Gira catalogue but it doesn't quite fit.

I've linked to a picture below with the back of the switch on the top, the spare Hager plate on the bottom left, and the original plastic plate on the right:
