KNX/EIB USB RS232 adapter

I know the topic has been touched many times, but due to my lack of knowledge of the german language, I'm unable to use the right keywords for the search. Sorry.

Can someone make a recommendation for a working USB to serial RS232 adapter, please ?
A pointer to a supplier would be great.

Out of luck, will not work; the KNX RS232 Interfaces use 4 communication lines and are very timing-sensitive.

Well, I was hoping for this extra-bonus, but I'm just replacing an old PC, used for maintenance / terminal emulation/ serial console in the telecom rack, by a newer Lenovo T420.
This thing has no RS232 on the docking station, so I'm looking for advice/ recommendation on a USB to RS232 adapter. Sorry, not really KNX oriented.

La plupart des adapteurs utilise les CI FTDI. Cette entreprise offre aussi leurs propres adapteurs, voir ici: USB RS232 Cables
J'ai beaucoup travaillé avec les FTDI. Grace à la difference entre les modêles de communication série (lettre par lettre) et USB (en bloc), les delais et la taux de transfert séront inférieures à un vrai interface série. Mais pour une simple consôle, ça suffira.

Il y a aussi des alternatives pas chères de provenance chinoise. Pour les tâches simples, ils suffisent aussi.

I would strongly suggest FTDI. They have unique serial numbers. At least on my Linux boxes you can use this to link it to the same name, regardless of the USB port the adapter is attached to.

Hallo GLT,

ich habe mir das Kabel vor ein paar Jahren zugelegt, da Adapter aus einschlägigen Technikmärkten nicht funktionierten. Damals habe ich bestimmt auch getestet, ob es mit RS232-Schnittstellen harmoniert - nur weiß ich das Ergebnis heute nicht mehr. ;-(
Ich hatte es benutzt um auf die Infoterminals verschiedener Hersteller zugreifen zu können. Auch für ein Bauteil der Griesser-Jalousiesteuerung konnte ich es benutzen.

Unwahrscheinlich. RS232 ist zeichenorientiert und schickt die Zeichen in sehr regelmäßigen Abständen, auch bei Last.
USB dagegen ist blockorientiert. Der Treiber beim FTDI schickt deswegen erst dann etwas los, wenn der Block voll ist oder ein Timer überläuft. Und da ist der Hund begraben: wenn man den Timer zu knapp wählt oder die Blockgröße zu klein, geht das massiv auf den Overhead. Wenn man die Werte zu groß wählt, handelt man sich massiv Latenzen ein. Bei FTDI sind die Werte WIMRE konfigurierbar, es ist und bleibt aber eine Krücke.

Habe mich damit mal ein paar Wochen herumgeschlagen, war kein Vergnügen. Ich nehme an, dass wegen dieser Effekte das Timing an der Seriellen schiefgeht und deswegen USB-Adapter an seriellen KNX-Schnittstellen eher schlecht gehen.

Wozu? Ich vermisse die RS232 überhaupt nicht seitens der ETS. Und alles andere Lässt sich per WuT gut, sehr gut programmieren.

Jedenfalls hab ich die noch nie vermisst.
