    [OT] Letter to Santa

    Dear Santa,

I'm a poor lonesome boy. I'm writing from far away, so far away I'm not sure this letter will ever reach you.

I've been brave all year long, I wash my hands before every meal and read the forum everyday.

I wish you could make my HomeServer to be programmed like any other computer on planet earth (and kick the crummy Python out).

I wish you could make my HomeServer act as true KNX router (instead of this crummy implementation).

I wish you could make the HomeServer much cheaper, so friends and relatives can buy one too.

I wish you could provide me with decent Web statistiques, so I can check who visited my Visu, for howlong etc, just like any other Web server on planet earth.

    Thank you Santa

PS: If ever you pass along in Midi-Pyrénées, please drop me another HomeServer so I can experiment a bit, instead of breaking each time my production system.
Not sure you can find my village, as it is right in the middle of nowhere, but GoogleMap can help you.

Off course my poor boy, what you think? Santa is also arrived in 2009 and has an VDSL account... and the KNK Forum is my home...

Listen poor boy, this already exits, the name of this gift is EisBär!

But, to tell you also the bad news, the manual is in german and there is no statistics - but i can send your ideas to the development guys ;-)

You are welcome, poor boy! You can easily download EisBär and install on how many pc's for testing purpose how much you want - ant it's for free!

And the best news - my lonesome poor boy - what I can tell you, is, that you are not lonesome! Bevause, if you are really every day in this forum, you have friends and you are not allone!

      Sincerley, your
      Santa from Haven

PS: And when your Win XP based Visu has once per year a "bluescreen" don't be angry. This is not because the programmers don't understund her work, this is a "hello from haven" ;-)

Santa was drinking a bottle of Médoc (a red french wine) to feel familiar with the poor boy from France - and after he mixt his fingers ... ;-)

          A la votre santé!

                Dear Santa,

Thank you for taking the time & trouble to answer a poor boy's letter. You must have a heck of a job answering all poor boys's letter (there are so many by now).

The fact is that your account is from yesterday. Dear Santa, where have you been before ? at the X10 forum ?

It looks like the crisis reached the North Pole as well. All you can offer is an EisBär! but they are free at the North Pole
I hope nobody is reading my mail, you could get in trouble with WWF, Greenpeace and other ecologist for illegaly exporting EisBärs.
I really thank you for your kind offer, but, listen, it's not really a good idea to have an EisBär! in Midi-Pyrénées, right now we have still 18°, I mean +18° hé Santa! An in the summer the temp climbes up to 45° (Celsius hé). Sorry, but no EisBär! can survive such hostile environment. My HomeServer has no problem, still running like a chief after 3 years.

I'm sorry my poor boy! The EisBär is the best what I can offer you! We also have seals and fishes, but they don't smell nice after 3 weeks @ 45 degrees in france...

But in one point you are right! I checked the
EisBär-Website and I saw, that they really don't specify the environment temperatures for the EisBär servers!

About WWF and Greenpeace don't worry: If you love your EisBär, if you are nice with him and hold him in a nice air-conditioned server room, nobody makes you troubles. And when we all pay our EisBär licences and donate some money for WWF and Greenpeace, evereybody get happy...

Addition to the wishlist, dear Santa, please don't bring us a result, where one has to spend more time on understanding the licensing model based on obscure page-based schemas. The far to excessive effort to create the visu itself is really enough burden, there's no need to add useless licensing complexity.

Makki, what's so complicate? Nothing is obscure:

EisBär Starter (10 pages) for "Mädchenvisu"
EisBär Professional (30 pages) for "Visu für Männer"
Eisbär Architekt (unlimitet) for hardcore Visu
                        upgrades are easy possible

I think i'ts a gift for people with a small project, that they sell the "Starter" pack for small money... (like an christmas gift)

                        Love and peace, your

It's a rather easy concept you know, people do it all the time, usually from North to South. But heck, you're happy in your coldness
I sold my house, put all furniture in a horse-drawn carriage and moved to France. Oh well, I could have moved to Germany, but people are by far too serious, they do nothing else than working (not the case here ) no Médoc and it rains all the time. No thanks.

A small place between Kassel and Siegen, very safe place, no EisBär around
Especially don't pass along, they don't deserve any .
I think their PLZ is 35216, it's not very far from the North Pole, maybe you can send your "Peter" during the lunch pause,.... with a wip.
I guess they are hibernating after having comitted the infamous QC.
Oh Santa, this lost opportunity is a sad story. The infamous QC could have been a master piece of code, the icons are really outstanding (hope they don't loose the source code this time). If they only had given us an option at installation time, like:
green = safe, no danger, power off, everything OK (for the normal human beeing, brave saouls like Matthias and me)
green = danger, watch out, hot, power on, system is running (for the crummies, aliens and other university profs (btw, this one also deserves to make a close encouter of the worst type with the wip of your "Peter" )).
About installation options, they should have looked at Microsoft, it's a market leader in the software industry. All their products offer installation time options, i.e.
"standard" means it crashes once a week
"custom" means it crashes every day
                            Neat and simple

but they are some other guys at Konnex in Belgium and they are sleeping very deep, perhaps I try to wake them up…?
Oh nooo, they are in a "highly civilized country”.
Especially don't wake them up. They break more then they fix It's a lost cause

                            Thank you Santa.

PS: you are a bit like the french government, you promise a lot, people expect a lot and at the end... there is just nothing.
                            A bit frustrating.
I hope you can do better next year, if the crisis is over.
PS: Dear Santa, I hope your mail is secure and that no one can read it, not even your horse. My unconventional opinions could bring me to court.
