    KNX/EIB IR remote control

    Hi,

I'm looking for a cheap way to activate a communication object via IR remote control.

Of course, I could use yet another quad push button (Merten 622844), but the device will be out of reach, only accessed via IR (Merten 570222) hence I'm looking for an alternative.

I don't know if the IR codes from the remote control are part of the KNX standard, if not, then I can only buy a Merten device.

    Thank you for your inputs

Hi Warichet, unfortunately I can not really help you with your other questions, but.. AFAIK there is no EIB.IR media defined so the remote control will certainly use a standard IR code. EIB over IR would be overkill. I have a Busch-Jaeger 6010 remote control in conjunction with a 6129 triple siwtch. It uses an ordinary RC-5 encoding which can easily be emulated by some universal remote controls. I bet that Merten uses similar technology. You might ask yourself why a RC-5 remote control from the EIB manufacturers still cost a fortune. I guess they still think that people who can afford EIB won't worry about another 100,- for a remote control.

If I get you right, this is almost the same scenario as the one I described above.
I was hoping for a simple IR receiver, i.e. without the switches. Just a raw IR on a BCU. Maybe I'm dreaming ? Yet another item for Santa's wish list

      I fear you are right.

Not exactly. I've chosen a flush mounted switch because I needed one there anyway. If I understand you right you want to place your receiver anywhere in the room. In that case you might find these products useful, again very expensive:
        Gira Instabus KNX/EIB IR-Umsetzer
        Fernbedienungslösungen

If you have an ethernet plug and some EIB translation software like a Homeserver or Misterhouse, the most popular (and "cheap" as well) would be IRTrans IR Trans - Produkte und Bestellungen - Ethernet Geräte
Read this topic as well: https://knx-user-forum.de/knx-eib-fo...sterhouse.html

I'm not an IR expert here, I've just done a quick research. I'm sure there are other solultions as well.

        Happy new year,
        Oliver

          raymond,
take a IRTrans and you'll be happy.

Perhaps, if you have an BJ Panel 6136 i think those can read the IR-Commands.

Is it so that the IRTrans is an IR-to-IP converter ? (just like a Moxa 5110 is a RS232-IP converter)
In which case, on the HS, it would be enough to write a small web parsing to extract the usefull info.
But ... how does this thing work ?
If I hit, say push button 3 of the remote control, how can I activate the relevant GA, say 0/1/56 ? maybe via some setup at the IRTrans ? translating PB3 to GA 0/1/56 ?

Thank you for providing some infra-red light in my black darkness

              warichet,

it's no problem to send an IR-command as an udp-command to the hs which will activate the Groupadress.

The IR-Trans will translate the IR-Command to an UDP-Command.

                Hi TRex,

                Thank you for the doc.

If I read well, this thing has an incredible number of possibilities ! much more then any remote control can send.
Not willing to be a pain, but how can I send a myriade of those IR codes if my remote control has only 10 push buttons (confused)

                Thanks again.

PS: I've read from previous posts, that we should select the model with the database, what is the argument for this ?

it's my chistmas-gift for an old friend...

i think with 10 buttons you can make 10 commands, with a little code it can be 20, if you open an window with the first command, and you different an second command.

i think the database ist the translation of the ir-commands to the udp.
