    KNX/EIB How can I assign a fixed IP to the N148 with ETS4 ?

    Hello,

I've read several post about the topic, but found no match to my problem ( lack of keyword)

So far, I've done a hardware reset and configured the N148, but it always binds to the IP adress got when the N148 was in DHCP mode.
I want to get rid of that and assign a static IP.

While conecting to the N148 as a standard device (not as interface) and using RS232 as interface, I've configured: manual (not DHCP), IP address, mask and gwy. It doesn't help. The comissioning tab is empty (normal ?)
When going back to the interface menu, the DHCP address is still there. Doing a a hardware reset doesn't help.

    Any idea ?

    Hello,

there are different Versions of the N148 available. Which one do you have exactly? Are you able to assign the physical address and to download the configuration via the RS232 interface?

If you have a N148/22 you may try to update the firmware since this also resets the device configuration:

    Best regards
    Stefan

      Hello,

      > Which one do you have exactly?
      N148/22

      >Are you able to assign the physical address and to download the configuration via the RS232 interface?
      No, neither via the HS
For info, the N148 is on line 1.0.x, the HS and most of the devices are in 1.1.x

      > If you have a N148/22 you may try to update the firmware since this also resets the device configuration:
      Great idea :-)
      I'll try asap

Thanks for the help, there is hope again.

I've placed a call at Siemens support, asking for help about the firmware upgrade of the N148/22.
Some days later, I got a bizarre message back.
Can someone tell me the corect address or procedure to get help about a N148, please ?

The Tool you have installed, I assume. Did you read the document about the update procedure? Unfortunately it's in German:
            https://www.hqs.sbt.siemens.com/cps_...2014_10_07.pdf

Since I do not understand where you got stuck, at the ETS or the Update Tool
I did a hardware reset, got 15.15.255, changed to 1.0.249
, I assume you didn't manage to get the FW update on the device.

To update the FW to version R4, as mentioned within the document:
            - install WinPcap, at least V4.1.2
            - ensure that the WinPcap service is running
            - start the Tool, there should be no error message
            - ensure to set a manual IP address on your PC
            - use a direct connection between PC and N148
            - disconnect the N148 from the power supply
            - hold down the prog button and reconnect the power supply
            - keep the button pressed until the prog LED is constantly on
            - release the button, now the LED should blink fast (this means update mode)
            - now click "Suchen" to search the device
            - if it appears in the list, select it and click "Aktualisieren"
            - finally check the log file

Now you need to reprogram the device with the ETS.

Well ..... after much trial & error, still no luck.

I think I've followed your procedure, step by step.
I get to the point, when the prog LED blinks fast
but any attempt to upgrade the FW brings an error message
unable to create a device connection
I've re-phrased your procedure, can you spot something wrong ?

              O install WinPcap, at least V4.1.2 (www.winpcap.org)
O ensure that the WinPcap service is running (NPF = NetGroup Packet Filter)
net start npf => The requested service has already been started.
              MSinfo32 / Software Environment / System Drivers / npf => Running
O start ETS, there should be no error message
O ensure to set a manual IP address on your PC (no DHCP, both address MUST be in same subnet)
O use a direct connection between PC and N148/22
(no network, switch etc) (straight cable, not crossed) (! PoE => ext power sup)
O disconnect the N148 from the power supply
O hold down the prog button and reconnect the power supply
              - keep the button pressed until the prog LED is constantly on (20sec)
O release the button, now the LED should blink fast (this means update mode)
O now click "Suchen" to search the device
O if it appears in the list, select it and click "Aktualisieren"
O finally check the log file
O Now you need to reprogram the device with ETS.
Should the KNX bus be connected for the FW upgrade ?
