[OT] Reading pulses from electric meter

    Hi everyone.

I am trying to get Kwh consumption readings from my electric meter. The meter has a light pulse output.
Is there some kind of sensor I can attach to it to count pulse similar to the reed switches available to the water counters? Some kind of light sensor?

I recall reading here somewhere that someone was checking the on/off of a device by checking it's power led. I guess it would be something similar?

    Thanks.

    Hi Mike,

I would recommend to have a look at http://www.volkszaehler.org/ . They have a lot of info. For most meters, the pulse is a binary code.

    regards,
    Sebastian

Ate a prossima

Thanks. That has indeed a lot of info. I'll have a look and hope it not too technical.

Thanks. This looks good. I'll check the price later.

Thanks but I'm afraid I am not allowed to connect anything directly to the counter. I can only use the pulse output

That's why I recommend to use the pulse output.

              Hi!

Sorry for hijacking a thread, but when I found an english thread about this, I just had to chime in. I have an electric meter that has a S0 output. I also have a MDT BE-16000.01 binary input. It says on the webpage: "Counting of pulses, suitable for 30ms S0 pulses", and I can configure the input as "counter". But I don't get any readings, as far as I can see. Should I've had the 24V binary input instead of the floating contact one?

Anyone have this working? Or in general have any tips?
