KNX/EIB First Post - LED dimming with 0-10V driver

    Hi everyone,
I have a project that has around 40 lighting circuits with dimmable LEDs with the drivers controlled by 0-10V.
I see that Merten do an 3 gang 0-10V actuator with switching contacts which should do the job. However I also know that you can get an 8 gang 1-10V actuator e.g. from ABB. This would bring the cost per channel down.

Has anyone tried using a 1-10V control on a 0-10V driver and if so was did the dimming work OK. Most importanatly did the LED dim down to an acceptable low level.

    Hi Nigel - welcome!

I do not have an answer for your specific question. Most of us do dimming of LED with DALI actuators.

But let's wait a little bit, maybe one of our users has experience with this combination.

      Hello Nigel,

I'm sorry but this will not work because 0-10V interfaces work totally different than 1-10V interfaces.

A 0-10V input acts as a current sink whereas a 1-10V driver does exactly the same so nothing will happen when you dim.
Or with other words: a 0-10V input expects a control voltage, a 1-10V driver acts like a potentiometer and controls the resistance to get the desired voltage which the device has to deliver. What's missing here is a current source so that's why this setup fails.

I actually had the same configuration in a test setup. I connected both devices and inserted 24V via a 4k7 resistor and it worked, but not that well. Don't do that at home ;-)

      Kind regards,
      Oliver
