So, did you succeed with the RAM?

Yes and no.
The issue is still pending.
In fact, I've 2 problems with similar symptoms (to make things easy ...)
1) The RAM is specified at 133, but works only 1 time out of 2. Great !
In the BIOS I've adjusted a parameter which forces the RAM to run at 100. Seems to work
2) With 512MB installed on bank1: Memory ctr runs till 256MB
With 640MB installed (128MB on bank1, 512MB on bank2): Memory ctr runs till 384MB
It looks like my motherboard accepts only 256MB per memory slot. So a max of 512MB total. I'll try to exchange my 512MB against 2x256MB
I wonder if my motherboard is from the paleolitic or neolitic.

If a 512 MB SDRAM module only gives 256 MB at the memory test, there is most probably an incompatibility between the board and the internal organization of the RAM. For example, a 512 MB module can consist of

8 64Mx8 chips
16 64Mx4 chips
16 32Mx8 chips
32 32Mx4 chips.

Those different varieties all have the same capacity, but the bus load (single-sided or double-sided RAM) and especially the refresh rate (4k or 8k) is different. The latter depends heavily on the internal organization of the RAM chips. The memory controller of the mainboard must support this, and if you put new RAM (with higher density chips) on an old mainboard there can be incompatibilites. Best bet on an older board is to find RAM of the same vintage, if possible - or use smaller capacity modules, as they often have older generation chips on them.

On the other hand the HS runs fine with 384 MB RAM, so you could live with it.

Remanent Speicher

Hi,

What about "Remanent Speicher" ?
What is it exactly and how is it created/used ?
I understand it is some form of permanent memory (for UZSU ?) to save data during power-off, so I guess it is written to flash.
Is it saved automatically by the Pimp procedure (copying all files from C: ) or does it need to be restored separately at the end of the procedure ?

The "Remanentspeicher" resides in a partition on the flash and needs to be restored separately. The "Pimp"-procedure does not take care of that. You can save it with "Remanentspeicher sichern" in the Experte.

This memory is used for everything you mark "remanent" in the Experte and e.g. the archives.

Is it one of the unformatted partitions ?
If so, my partitionning scheme of a 1 GB flash is completely overkill (20, 50, 470, 470).
I guess a 500MB would have been fine as well.
