Hallo,

nachdem ich ja Initiator dieses Threads, der sich maechtig entwickelt hat, war, moechte ich noch einen weiteren Tipp weitergeben.

Scheinbar tut sich gerade eine neue Spielwiese fuer uns "Radiowecker-Freaks" auf. Ich habe das Ding hier gefunden:


Das ist eine Mischung aus Radiowecker und iPod/iPhone. Auch der Touchscreen ist gegeben, sodass zu laute Geraeusche bei der Bedienung nicht vorkommen sollten ;-)

Es laeuft komplett unter Linux und kann ab Werk schon rudimentaer ueber http/ssh (somit vom HS/FS) von aussen fernbedient werden.

Natuerlich koennen eigene Erweiterungen gemacht werden. Theoretisch ist eine Funktion bei mir schon fertig: Wenn meine Mobotix-Cameras Bewegung erkennen, erscheint das jeweilige Bild automatisch auf dem Screen des Chumby.

Kostenpunkt ca. EUR 125,00, also nur wenig mehr als ein MusicPal.

Leider sind die Dinger chronisch ausverkauft und in Deutschland momentan nur ueber einen einzigen Online-Haendler zu bekommen. Auch ich habe noch keinen bekommen :-(

Wenn man - wie ich - kein WLAN im Haus möchte (schon gar nicht auf dem Nachttisch): Chumby kann auch mit Kabel - jetzt muß sich nur noch ein Linux-Könner finden, der den WLAN-Adapter im Chumby deaktivieren kann...

Stimmt. Das findet man auch alles im Wiki. Es wird einfach ein USB2Ethernet-Adapter benutzt. Siehe Link von "eibling". Werde ich auch so machen.

Das WLAN softwaremaessig abzuschalten sollte kein Problem sein. Einfach das WLAN-Interface auf "down" schalten. Wem dies nicht reicht, klemmt die WLAN-Antenne ab....

Ja schaut gut aus: creating a new connection!

Vorausgesetzt, man schaltet damit auch den WLAN-Adapter ab (bei PCs würde ich so eine Einstellung im BIOS erwarten...)

ich habe das aber so verstanden, dass man eigene Anwendungen (Plugins) schreiben muss. Ein "normaler" Webbrowser ist z.B. nicht eingebaut, oder? In welcher Sprache werden die Erweiterungen implementiert?

Vielleicht sollten wir (wenn es soweit ist), dann einen neuen Chumby-Thread eröffnen :-)

ich fliege zwar morgen wieder nach N.Y. - und hätte auch noch Platz im Koffer und im Import-Limit - aber auch in den USA ist das Teil ausverkauft und für mitte Februar avisiert...

Wg. WIFI: da dürfte ein "if eth0 down" oder "wifi down" genügen. Antenne abschneiden halte ich für den falschen Weg - da wird die Strahlung eher stärker weil der WiFi-Chip mit Maximalleistung senden muss um mit der Restantenne noch irgendwas zu erreichen...

Ansonsten muss man wohl beim Chumby FLASH programmieren können - "einfache" Linux-Kentnisse reichen nicht - außer vielleicht für mpc und konsorten - aber nix was man vom Touch bedienen kann...

Nachtrag: ich war gerade mal die Chumby-Widgets anschauen. Sieht so aus als wenn man die auch in eine "normale" Visu einbinden könnte! So eine schicke Uhr - oder die Wettervorhersage als Flash-Widget einzubetten ist doch eine gute idee, oder?

I've read this thread from first to last, learned a lot, upgraded the firmware from org 1.59d to 1.67 (BETA), but still, it's not doing what I want, although I've read it should work.

Is there a doc or site where all available commands are listed with a word of explanation, and there syntax according to last firmware ?

The following commands run, no problem

The following commands have a problem

Switch to a fav, has the same problem as above

This, command works as expected, effectively selects radio station 7 in the fav (although I don't understand the "&a=p&i=6"). But then another command with a different fav id, doesn't work

although there is a short silence after sending the command, but it sticks to the old fav

I'd like to know the "clean" version of the set brigthness. I guess there is extra information on the command below.

Heuu, no.
I type the commands in the command line of IE.
I thought, if some work, they should all work, no ?

Is it really necessary to issue the commands from within a script ? (although I don't see the subtle difference)

For the moment, I'm just testing and learning. The ultimate goal is to have everything available from within the HS.

Any pointer to a list of the available commands and their syntax ?

Unfortunately I have no complete list of commands. I have done some analysis on the html source and as you can see in the code, some commands (brightness and show_clock) are issued by a HTTP_POST, which means the data is sent as it is done when you send an HTML form and not like calling an URL as you try.

Additionally you have to do the correct encoding of the URL, which means instead of an § you have to specify %A7.

Therefore I think, in general the HTTP_GET commands in my scripts should work if you use the correct encoding in your URL and the HTTP_POST commands probably will not work.

Concerning your concrete Problems:

Favorites
favorites URL should be: (e.g. switching to favourite 6)
http:/<IP>//admin/cgi-bin/admin.cgi?f=favorites&n=../favorites.html&a=p&i=6

Text Display
try the correct encoding of all special characters as mentioned above.

Volume:
Your URL is correct and for me it works up to v=20 which is the maximum volume.

Set Brightness
This is done by the HTTP_POST command, which means, that it will not work by calling an URL. But the HS is able to generate POST commands, therefore I think it will work with the HS. Then you have to specify in the HS the POST URL and the parameters which will then be sent by an HTPP_POST call to the Musicpal.
