    KNX topology

    Dear all,

    sorry for English, my written German is not so good. I can read it und understand so you can reply also in German.

    We have one KNX project with topology presented on the attached picture.

    There is 1 ABB IPR/S IP router and 2 ABB LK/S line coupler devices which should devide topology in 3 lines, one for each floor.

    KNX physical addresses are set as presented on the picture. We noticed that LK/S can only be set to have address in from the same segment where is IPR/S.

    While setting up the system with base settings for the IPR/S and LK/S we noticed that there is no KNX communication between floors, so push button from Line 2 can’t reach device on Line 2 (through group addresses).
    Settings for group telegrams in the IPR/S and LK/S was set to filter. We changed this to route and communication between floors staring to work fine.

    But recently we found that we have certain communication problem in whole KNX network. For now it is showing when we try to program certain devices. For example from our PC we can’t change settings of the switcher 1.1.11, from ETS 5 we get the message that device can’t be reached in the defined time. But in the same time we can program switcher 1.2.11 or 1.3.11. Also if we disconnect Line 2 and Line 3 from Line 1 then we can program device 1.1.11.

    We checked traffic and it seems that there is no heavy traffic on the network. Only 4 thermostats are set to send actual temperature with the value change all other devices are set to send a telegram on change or request.

    From all of this we can conclude that maybe we made some error in the topology configuration. I'm not sure did we make some error in the topology or there is some error in the line coupler settings. Settings of the line coupler are also attached.

    Can you please give some suggestions or advise.

    ETS will then give the devices addresses with 1.0.x

      Hallo Alen,

      deine Topologie ist nicht korrekt.
      Um die Linien 1.1, 1.2 und 1.3 miteinander vebinden zu können, brauchst du eine Hauptlinie 1.0.

      Du kannst aber deine Linie 1.1 in die Hauptlinie 1.0 ändern, dann brauchst du keine zusätzlichen Komponenten.

        Shouldn´t have the line couplers a physical adress with a 0 at the end?

        Line2 : 1.2.0
        Line3 : 1.3.0

          Hi Mike, many thanks for your reply. It seems you are right. I was reading things related to topology and wanted to change 1.1 to 1.0 but ETS5 don't allow me. In the topology view I'm not allowed to change 1.1 to 1.0 or to add line 1.0.

          Please advise how to do it.

            Hi Tom, it seems that I messed up something with the definition of the Main Line so therefore I'm not able to link correctly Line 2 and Line 3 with Line 1 (Main Line). But I'm not sure how to correct it in the ETS.

                Hi Mike, many thanks for help. Wouldn't found that in 100 years.

                So now I need to change all devices address which where in Line 1.1 (now 1.0). Then Line coupler will be addressed as x.x.0 as they should be.

                Should I use filter or route settings for Line Couplers? If I'm using filter where I can find (define) filter table?

                  You're welcome!

                  Yes all couples must have addresses like x.y.0
                  Otherwise they won't filter correctly.

                  You should always use filter to reduce bus communication on the other lines.
                  But have in mind to update the filter tables (which the ets will calculate automaticly) and reprogram the application of the couplers, so the telegrams will reach the lines where it is needed.

                  Also make shure you allow physikal addressed telegrams, so you can program also the devices in 1.2 and 1.3 from your mainline 1.0.

                    So I don't need to edit this table, ETS will do it automatically base on the current group addresses? But wen I add new one I need to download again program to the line couplers?

                      Yes
                      But only GAs which are on both sides (ex. 1.0 and 1.2) will be included in filter table of 1.2.0

                      You can see if a device needs to be reprogrammed in the topolgy view

                        Just look on the green points in the device list, if one is missing at the LK, programm it.
